Zurlo has served North Country government for more than 40 years in one capacity or another. He first served as a Champlain town councilman, then as Clinton County Legislator for Area One and most recently as county clerk - a position for which he is now serving his fourth term.
"This is where we've made our life," Zurlo said of he and his wife, Mary. "It's not a bad place to raise a family and to live with good people ... and to serve the people of Clinton County and Northern New York."
"Thank you very much for this honor," Zurlo told the crowd. "I'll do my best to make you proud."
Zurlo now joins the ranks of several dozen others who have received the designation of Irishman of the Year since 1959.
