Garden Club at Adult Day Care

On Feb. 9, members of the Springfield Garden Club helped clients create flower arrangements at the Adult Day Care Center on River St. in Springfield.

This brought a little "winter sunshine" into their world at Valentine's Day time. The clients and the Garden Club members enjoyed working together in this "Garden Therapy" activity. The clients took home their arrangement to brighten up their home.

Over the past several years, the Springfield Garden Club has received several state awards for their garden therapy efforts. Soon they will be working with the clients to plan and plant and care for their own patio garden area behind the Adult Day Care Center. These activities at the Adult Day Care are done in conjunction with the Springfield Hospital.

One of the important goals of the Springfield Garden Club is to provide opportunities for the community to connect with their natural environment through flowers and the community plantings. They also have winter flower arranging workshops for residents in the Huber and Whitcomb buildings as well as making arrangements once a month for the Meals on Wheels deliveries. This is all on top of their major effort of the summertime street box and park plantings throughout the larger Springfield community area.

The funding of these projects as well as their sponsorship of student scholarships in the horticulture and natural environment fields is supported by their major fundraiser the "Festival of Trees," for which the club gratefully appreciates the community's support.

New members are always welcome and can contact Barb Lacy at 886-8112 for information.
