POULTNEY - It's a springtime event in Poultney that local residents have been talking about for weeks-the 2010 Poultney merchants' Lucky Leprechaun Game; the game is underway and will run through Saturday, March 27.
The purpose behind the annual game is a bit of shameless community self promotion: it's a clever way to get local residents, and residents of surrounding communities, to visit Poultney's stores and restaurants in order to see what this quaint Rutland County town has to offer.
The game, with a first prize of $300 and a second prize $200 gift certificate, is open not only to local residents, but also to residents from surrounding areas-so you can join in the fun.
Poultney's Lucky Leprechaun Game works like this: businesses in town participate by donating money to a collective pool. The total cash collected is converted into gift certificates that will be awarded as prizes to two lucky shoppers.
The gift certificates may be spent at any participating Lucky Leprechaun business. Also, the certificates do not have to be used all in one store.
Shoppers can enter to win by visiting participating businesses in Poultney and picking up a Lucky Leprechaun Game sheet there is a map on the back of the game sheet. The game sheet will be stamped at each store when the shopper makes a visit. No purchase is necessary.
Once the shopper has stamps from all the participating Lucky Leprechaun Stores, the game sheet can be placed in the box at Tiny Theater for the drawing.
The winners will be drawn at 4 p.m.on Saturday, March 27, at Tiny Theater, 143 Main St. Contestants do not have to be present to win.
Game rules: Contestants must be at least 16 years old; only one entry per person; and only fliers stamped by all of the participating businesses will be eligible to win.
