Time flies when you're having fun

NORTH CREEK - The Baby's Place Play Group 2009-2010 program is winding down for the summer. It seems everyone - parents, caregivers, toddlers and the play group staff and volunteers - was playing so well and having such a good time that the days sailed through fall, winter and spring. It's nearly summer and we are all wondering where the time went.

One feature of this playgroup is the participation of parents, grandparents and other caregivers playing right alongside the children. Adults who attend the group come not only to play, but also to connect with one another. Old friendships are renewed and sustained and new ones grow and develop.

This year, the group had the pleasure of dads attending many of the sessions. Kids love it when dads come to play. Everyone seems to feel a special energy generated at those times. Dads add a special ingredient to the recipe for fun.

The Baby's Place Play Group recently hosted a "Coffee and Conversation" Event featuring local author, JoAnn Flammer from nearby Adirondack. Her talk focused on everyday ways parents can be their childrens' first teachers and provide educational opportunities long before their children reach school age. Other "Coffee and Conversation" presenters have explored important topics including "Understanding Children's Temperaments" and "Keeping Children Safe While Driving in the Car".

As this play group year comes to a close, Baby's Place staff and volunteers want to wish all the best to those transitioning to pre-k in the fall. Some of these children have been playgroup members since they were nursing infants in their mothers' arms. (The group welcomes children ages newborn through 3.)

Yes, time flies when you're having fun. The Play Group's last session for this year was Tuesday, June 15 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the North Country Outreach Center. Later this summer watch for another article announcing the Baby's Place first session in September of 2010. The Infant and Toddler Play Group is a program of North Country Ministry.
