Ti searching for bidders on heat project

TICONDEROGA - It could be a cold winter at the Ticonderoga Community Building.

The building, which is home to most town offices, needs a new heating system - and no one seems willing to install one at a reasonable cost.

The town board is again seeking bids on the project to upgrade its 1940 steam boiler. It's the third time bids are being sought.

Supervisor Deb Malaney said the town engineer has estimated the project to cost about $100,000.

The first request for bids attracted two interested contractors - both with prices in excess of $200,000.

"That was just too much," Malaney said. "We rejected those bids and decided to try again."

A second request for bids got no response.

"Not one bid," Malaney said, "so we'll go to bid for a third time."

And what if no one bids this time? The town board will cross that bridge when the time comes, hoping the third attempt at improving its heating system is successful.
