Post traumatic stress disorder

Are you caring for someone with post traumatic stress disorder? If the answer is "yes," then you already realize how stressful this can be for caregivers as well as care receivers.

Several studies have focused on caregiver burden and PTSD, and the findings show a strong correlation between the severity of PTSD and caregiver burden. The nature of the PTSD may make the caregiver feel like they are the only person capable of providing care.

Caregivers need to understand symptoms of PTSD, as well as where they come from. Caregivers must also make time for themselves to do things that they enjoy, even for a few minutes a day or week.

Individual and group therapy may greatly benefit caregivers, and support groups are another great way for caregivers to alleviate their stress and re-charge batteries so that they can continue to provide care to their loved ones.
