Feuer to present paintings of local landscapes at Widlund Gallery

NORTH CREEK - Kari Feuer of Dutchess County will present a solo exhibit entitled, "Up and Down River" in the Widlund Gallery of Tannery Pond Community Center during the month of August. She will be featuring landscape paintings of both oil and pastel depicting Hudson Valley vistas, farms and rivers.

Feuer will be honored at an artists reception Saturday, July 31 from 5 to 7 p.m. and all are welcome. The exhibit will run until Aug. 26.

Feuer has frequented the North Creek area during summer and winter visits for many years. She views her paintings as color and mood studies, rather than fully representational renderings, and many of the oils are painted with a palette knife. One of her works was recently published in "The Pastel Journal" as a national contest finalist.

"My landscape paintings are an emotional response to nature and open spaces, simplified to express not only serenity or grandeur, but also the under tone of darkness, mystery and loss attached to our experience of nature," Feuer said. "They range from the contemplative to the dramatic in mood, drawing the viewer into the scene as a lone observer. Whether using oil paint or pastel, I'm seeking the magic in shimmering layers of color to balance the tension between reflection and darkness, air and mass, serenity and energy."
