Minerva Citizens of the Year - quietly working for the community

Many folks get to meet Smith and Hitchcock at The Stand at Donnelly Beach on Minerva Lake, where they have been serving food and beverages for the past five years. Their generous nature and amazing sensitivity when it comes to the numerous kids and beachgoers at the beach is well known and much-appreciated.

"It's weird to get this honor for just doing basic things for the people of the town," said Hitchcock. "We're proud to be residents of Minerva - we've always loved this town."

In honor of their service, the couple will lead the Minerva Day parade Saturday, July 3, leaving at 5 p.m. from Sporty's Iron Duke Saloon and finishing at Donnelly Beach on Minerva Lake.
