"We wanted them to be ones that would degrade that wouldn't exacerbate problems that we have with the waste stream," said Kurtz.
The bags were primarily distributed among the 42 members of the TDC board of directors, but were given a wider reach as they were given out at the recent Plattsburgh-North Country Chamber of Commerce Business Expo. Bags are still available through the TDC and through the town of Plattsburgh offices on Banker Road.
This fall, Kurtz said she anticipates another batch of littler bags to be produced to keep helping the community do its part.
"This won't be just a one-time thing," said Kurtz. "We're not asking people to spend four or five days picking up trash, but keep the bag in your car and if you see some, pick it up. This is something we can all do for the community."
