NORTH CREEK - Many North Creek residents know Randy LaFountain as the head coach of Johnsburg's Youth Baseball team, "Gore." Coach LaFountain, however, is so much more.
LaFountain and his family moved to North Creek in the early 1970's when he was only a child. He came with his late parents, Betty and Clarence Davis and his siblings, Robin Scheeren, Regina Baker, Paul Davis, Julie West, and the late Ruthie Mandy.
Sports have always been a significant part of LaFountain's life. Prior to graduating from Johnsburg Central School (JCS) in 1979, Randy led his varsity soccer team to League Championships in 1975 - 1978. He was one of only two people to be part of a League Championship team four years in a row. When the old JCS kickboard was taken down a few years ago, he made sure to save the section of the kickboard engraved with his playing years. He looks back fondly on these years and is proud to have been a part of such a great string of teams.
Aside from soccer, LaFountain has been actively playing and coaching several other sports since his high school days, including tennis, baseball, and basketball. A current member at Green Mansions Golf Club, Randy enjoys hitting the links with his two sons and his two stepsons.
An avid poker and successful billiards player, LaFountain can often be found shooting pool on his table at home, complete with custom Miami Dolphins logo printed on the felt. Though a lifelong resident of NY, he has always been a huge Miami Dolphins fan.
A struggling single Dad, LaFountain raised his three children (Randy, Becky, and Robert) in North Creek. Between working various jobs and raising teenagers, he still made time to attends games and even coach.
In 1994, LaFountain met his current wife, Lisa Bohmer [LaFountain]. She joined the family with her two sons, Ray & Stephen. He met Bohmer while coaching her sons in Little League.
