Morrisonville man in fatal snowmobile accident

WAVERLY - A Morrisonville man has died from injuries sustained in a snowmobile accident in Franklin County.

State police in Malone are investigating a two-vehicle fatal accident that occurred at approximately 11 a.m. Jan. 7 on the Blue Mountain Road in the town of Waverly, approximately 10.4 miles south of State Route 458.

According to a police report, Christopher Macey, 53, Morrisonville, was operating a 2009 Bombardier snowmobile in a northerly direction, traveling as the second snowmobile in a group of four. Earl Bono, 57, Winthrop, was operating a 1995 International Tandem Dump Truck, in a southerly direction. The vehicles reportedly met on a sharp curve and Macey was unable to avoid striking the rear of the oncoming dump truck, and was ejected from his snowmobile.

St. Regis Falls Rescue responded and transported Macey to Alice Hyde Medical Center, Malone, where he was pronounced deceased. An autopsy was performed by Dr. Leonardo Dishman and it was determined the cause of death was a lacerated aorta due to a motor vehicle accident. The manner of death was ruled to be accidental.

State police were assisted in the investigation by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the New York State Forest Rangers. No tickets have been issued and the investigation is continuing.
