Death in the news

Melious White, 84, died Jan. 19, 1910 at the home of his son, Frank E. White in Warrensburgh. He was the stepfather of Warrensburgh businessman Martin L. Messenger.

For many years, White had been a resident of Stony Creek and came here to live this past summer. He had been blind for several years and in poor health. Internment was in the Dean Cemetery, Stony Creek.

(Note: White's stepson Martin L. Messenger, a native of Stony Creek, came to Warrensburgh in 1900 to run a mercantile business. Not long after that he built The Messenger House on Hudson Street, a fine hotel and later a summer boarding house. It stayed in the family until 1950 when his daughter, Winnifred Kerr sold it. It was a tavern when it burned, March 28, 1988 in a spectacular fire.)
