Hannaford parking lot crash involved vehicle, two pedestrians

RUTLAND TOWN - On Feb. 23, Vermont State Police in Rutland were dispatched to a motor vehicle

crash involving pedestrians in the parking lot of Hannaford Surpermarket which is located in the Green Mountain Plaza in Rutland Town.

Upon arrival, Regional Ambulance Service was in the process of transporting one of the pedestrians to RRMC, while EMT's on scene tended to the second pedestrian who was still in the parking lot. The vehicle involved was on scene, with the operator still inside.

Troopers spoke to numerous witnesses who all stated the two pedestrians were walking into the supermarket when they observed the vehicle back into the pedestrians. Due to the force of the impact both pedestrians were knocked onto the pavement. The operator of the vehicle applied the brakes before driving over the pedestrians.

Both pedestrians were transported to RRMC. As a result of the crash and the resulting injuries, Ms. Bersaw died while at RRMC. The operator of the vehicle was uninjured and medically released on scene.
