g in the Classroom seeking volunteers

WESTPORT - How many kids understand where the food on their table comes from or where the kitchen table comes from? During National Agriculture Week, March 15-19, students throughout New York will be learning about the importance of the trees in our everyday lives during the fourth annual New York Agriculture Literacy Week, coordinated by New York Agriculture in the Classroom.

Once again Farm Bureau is generously sponsoring the purchase of books that will be read in second grade classrooms and then donated to the schools' libraries throughout the county. This year's book is the "The Tree Farmer," written by Chuck Leavell and Nicholas Cravotta. Teachers will also receive a resource packet including additional lessons and information on the timber industry.

If you are interested in volunteering your time to read in a classroom, please contact Linda Gillilland, 4-H resource educator at 962-4810 or by e-mail at llg46@cornell.edu.
