LAKE GEORGE - Scouting is thriving at Lake George Central School, where several dozen students are enrolled in Troop 13.

Winter activities are a favorite with the Troop 13 scouts, who have been known to take an expedition deep into the wilderness near Newcomb - a father-son campout in which the scouts snowshoe into a hunting camp on a remote lake. The trip includes digging a snow cave and sleeping outdoors over a weekend.

Spring includes another father-son canoe and kayak trip to Lows Lake. This venture includes about 15 miles of canoeing and tent-camping in which the boys carry in all their gear into remote areas for rustic camping.

Their annual summer experience in Camp Wakpominee includes learning swimming, sailing and orienteering skills as well as a lot of fun, scout leaders said.
