SCHROON LAKE - The annual Schroon Lake Fourth of July celebration needs help.
The annual event, which features a parade, fireworks and a series of community events, is short of money.
"Every year, Schroon Lake is known for its ability to put on a wonderful Fourth of July celebration that attracts thousands of visitors," said Kate Huston, Schroon Lake Fourth of July chairwoman. "Not only does Schroon Lake have a great parade, but entertainment is provided throughout the day, with rides for the kids, vendors, and live musical entertainment - everything from folk artists to rock bands - something for everyone.
"This year, the Fourth of July fund needs your help," she added.
Huston, who just assumed the position as celebration chairwoman, explained the previous chairwoman, Joan Cunningham, is suffering from an illness and has been forced to relinquish her position.
"As a result, I'm starting out with a dangerously-low balance of funds due to the economy and shortfall of donations last year," Huston said. "We desperately need early donations this year to assist in getting started. Your support allows us to provide quality entertainment for the Fourth of July celebration and the Adirondack's best parade. The entire days' events are paid for by your contributions."
The celebration this year will be held on Saturday, July 3.
Benefactors can make checks payable to Fourth of July Parade Fund and mail them to P.O. Box 614, Schroon Lake 12870.
"Let's come together and make our event the same exciting day that has drawn thousands of visitors to the town of Schroon from all over the Adirondacks for decades," Huston said. "Any amount that you can share with us will be appreciated."
