Forum to feature village candidates

SARANAC LAKE - The Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce's Legislative Resources Committee and its partners, the Adirondack Daily Enterprise and Mountain Communications, will be hosting a Village Election Forum starting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 2, in the Town of Harrietstown Town Hall Auditorium.

The two mayoral candidates, Jeff Branch and Clyde Rabideau, as well as Trustee candidates, Susan Waters, Diana Howard, Tom Catillaz and Allie Pelleteri have agreed to participate.

"Although the Chamber does not support one candidate over another, we do support the election process and want to bring pertinent information to voters so they can vote for the candidates they think can best represent them on the Village Board," said SLACC Executive Director Sylvie Nelson, who will moderate the event.

Chris Knight, reporter for the Adirondack Daily Enterprise and Chris Morris, News Director at WNBZ and Mountain Communications will act as the panel and ask the candidates questions.

The candidates will be divided into two groups: the mayoral candidates, who will have two and a half minutes each to answer questions, and the Trustee candidates, who each will have two minutes to answer the questions. Each candidate will be given an additional 30 second rebuttal period if they wish to use it.

In order to keep the process fair and unbiased, questions will not be shared with the candidates prior to the event. Moreover, the Adirondack Daily Enterprise and Mountain Communications will request their respective readers and listeners to submit questions to the panel prior to the forum.

At the beginning of the Forum, the candidates will each have two minutes to introduce themselves. They will also have the same amount of time at the end of the event to conclude with a statement. Audience members will be able to submit written questions but names will be required on the question in order to be read and only questions not part of the Forum will be asked.
