Moriah hosts spelling bee

PORT HENRY - Moriah Elementary School recently held its annual spelling bee. Each classroom qualified two students to compete for grand champion in grades 4-6 and grade level champion.

The grand champion is Nick Manfred of grade 5.

Grade 4 champion is Sarah Drake and runner-up is Sarah Snyder.

Grade 5 champion is Nick Manfred and runner-up is Joe King.

Grade 6 champion is Jordan Speshock and runner-up is Christina Lashway.

All the winners received prizes courtesy of the Moriah Parent-Teacher Association.

All grade level champions will compete in the regional spelling bee to be held at Plattsburgh High School. The regional bee champion will earn an expense paid trip to compete in the Scripp's National Spelling Bee held in Washington, D.C., in May.

Participating students by grade level for the Moriah Elementary bee were:

Grade 4 - Sarah Drake, Emily Haase, Melina LaValley, Sarah Snyder, Jay Strieble, Kinsley White

Grade 5 - Ray Bryant, Joe King, Nick Manfred, Courtney Moulton, Carly Newton, Colbi Sherman

Grade 6 - Joe Cutting, Billy Larrow, Christina Lashway, Brandy Robichaud, Taylor Slattery, Jordan Speshock
