Mardi Gras Benefit for WOOL.FM

Following up on the smashing success of last year's Mardi Gras extravaganza, Black Sheep Radio, the area's preeminent, non-profit community radio station, will hold its second annual Mardi Gras Ball on Saturday, Feb. 13, from 7 p.m. to midnight, in the common room at 33 Bridge Street in Bellows Falls.

This year the party gets added momentum from combining its New Orleans Joie de Vivre with the Joie d'amour of Valentine's Day.

Cajun food is provided by the hosts, staff, and volunteers at WOOL and drinks by Harvest Moon who will provide a full cash bar bursting with New Orleans specialty drinks, beer, and wine. Music is by the Lil' Orphans Cajun express and the Black Sheep Brass Band.

Tickets are $15 and include dinner, dancing, beads, and revelry.

All proceeds benefit operations and expansion of non-profit WOOL 100.1 FM as the station gears up for its long-awaited full power signal, expected to be announced soon.

Whether you arrive in a string of beads, a feathered mask, or a heart shaped box, arrive early and stay late. Bring your dancing partner and/or your Valentine!

Last year's event came near to selling out and it's too cold to be left out in the street. This is a night-long event with plenty of food and drink and full-blown Louisiana hospitality not to be missed. Gumbo, red beans and rice, cornbread, French bread, spaghetti and red sauce for those who do not favor Cajun specialties, and of course there will be a traditional King Cake.

Lil' Orphans Cajun Express is dedicated to playing original and contemporary Louisiana Cajun Dance Hall music as well as traditional waltzes, two steps, pan-African, Caribbean, New Orleans R&B, and swamp pop.

For this event, the the band will consist of Pete Simoneaux, fiddle & vocals, Linda Simoneaux, accordion & vocals, Dan Kasnitz, electric bass, Steve Frankel, electric guitar, Richie Mayer, drums, and Julian Gerstin, percussion,
