SCHROON LAKE - Snowmobile drag racing will return to the area this winter.
The Schroon Lake -North Hudson Snowmobile Club will host races Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 20 and 21. The races will be held on Schroon Lake adjacent to the town beach
Tickets are priced at $6 a day or $10 for both days for adults and $3 a day or $5 for both days for children ages 10-16.
The races are returning to Schroon Lake after a four-year absence.
"It's good for the community and good for the club," said Dwayne Anderson, president of the Schroon Lake -North Hudson Snowmobile Club.
Registration both days will be 8-9:30 a.m. with racing to start at noon after classes have been determined. There will be pre-registration Friday, Feb. 19, at the Witherbee Carriage House.
Sponsored by the Eastern Speed Association, the races are open to the general public as well as professionals. "It's open to John Q. Public, but the big boys will be there, too," Anderson said.
People can race in multiple classes.
The local business community is helping with the event, Anderson said.
"We have a lot of support," he said. "Area businesses have donated money and door prizes to the club and are helping offset the costs. Hopefully we can return the favor and fill up the local hotels and restaurants."
Following racing Saturday, awards will be presented at Flanagan's Pub.
After racing on Sunday, awards will be presented at the Timberwolf Pub.
