LAKE PLACID - Lake Placid High School held its own Winter Carnival last weekend and honored some promising students from the Class of 2010.
Activities ran Feb. 4-6 andincluded a hockey tournament, Sno-Ball Hop, and student competitions in events such as pie eating, snow volleyball, and broomball.
The carnival culminated in a coronation ceremony Feb. 6. Four boys and four girls were nominated from among the senior class to be chosen as king and queen of the carnival.
The nominees are listed below. This year's king is Andrew Baird. This year's queen is Morgan Caudill.
Morgan Caudill, daughter of Catherine Gronlund of Jay, NY and Jubel Caudill of Earlville, NY, was born in Norwich, N.Y., and attended Sherburne-Earlville Elementary School. Morgan lives in Jay, NY with her mother and stepfather, Carl Gonlund, cats Reina and Maddie, and dogs Paco and Sophie. Her older sister, Alexandra, attends college in Hamilton, NY. Her extended family includes Will and Lizzie Gronlund.
Morgan enjoys skiing, reading and camping in her free time, and is a member of the Varsity Basketball and Softball teams. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Key Club, Lambda Pi, and Student Council. Morgan has applied to colleges in the Finger Lakes Region of NY to pursue her interest in elementary education.
Andrew Baird, son of Cindy and Stuart Baird, was born in Saranac Lake and attended Lake Placid Elementary School. Andrew lives with his parents, younger brother, Stuart, and dog, Iroquois. His older brother, Ben, also lives in Lake Placid. Andrew enjoys skiing, hiking, traveling, pursuing environmental issues and hanging out with friends. He is a member of the Blue Bomber Times staff, the National Honor Society, Environmental Club, Key Club, Lake Placid Outing Club, and Treasurer of the Class of 2010. Andrew participates in Varsity Soccer, Alpine Racing, and Baseball. He plans to attend college in New York State.
