Christmas party prize winners announced
The Thurman Children's Christmas Party was presented Dec. 4 at the Town Hall by the town Youth Commission. No less than 55 children were on hand when dear old Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived in on a big fire truck, bearing gifts for all the good boys and girls. Raffles were later held and children winning prizes were Nolan Templeton, Kayten Constantineau, Makala Griswold, Aiden Moulton, Cameron Allen, Audryona Swartz, Faith Carson, Dawson James and Alexis Gaucher. The Shepler Family won the door prize. After enjoying snacks, everyone donned their coats to go outside and decorate the Christmas tree, after which Bruce Tvrdik and his daughter led the group in singing Christmas carols. A wonderful time was had by all. The Commission expresses their appreciation for those sending cookies and treats.
Activities and events in the North Country
The Glens Falls YMCA on Glen Street is conducting a free Family Fun Night, open to residents of area communities, Friday, Jan. 7, from 7 to 9 p.m. Families with children ages 5 to 11 are encouraged to bring the family for a night of crafts and games, followed by an open gym and swim time.
There will not be a John Thurman Historical Society meeting this month or in the month of February.
The Gleaning food distribution will be held at the Town Hall Tuesday, Jan. 4, at 10 a.m. We are always in need of clean, used grocery bags and if you have extra, they can be dropped off at the Town Hall anytime. This free food program is open to all town residents.
The Thurman Emergency Squad had set new meeting dates of the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Squad Building on High Street. As I write this, I'm not sure of what will happen with our much needed squad, so perhaps you can call ahead at 623-4254 to see if they will meet as planned at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5.
