TICONDEROGA - The Ticonderoga girls indoor track team is building for the future.
"We have youth mixed with some experience, but the greatest strength is our willingness to work hard and never give up," Coach Walt Thorne said.
The Sentinels have 10 athletes returning from last season, led by five members of this fall's Ti cross country team. The team had the school's best record in nearly a decade.
Tabitha Taylor, Alaina Bevilacqua, Becky Barber, Markie teRiele and Hannah Herbst, all harriers, return to the club. Bevilacqua, Barber and Herbst each qualified for the state cross country championship meet and Taylor would have if not for a late-season illness.
That group will hold down the distance events along with rookie Ashlyn LaPerle.
Courtney Shaner returns to the Ti roster to lead the sprinters and jumpers. Joining her are veterans Alyssa Fuller and Nicole Fuller along with newcomers Morgan Granger, Alyssa Rodriguez and Taylor Ward.
Ti will feature Abigail Gurney and Jordan Quesnel as returning throwers. Taylor Dorsett is a new thrower. "Unfortunately we don't have the numbers this Indoor season," Thorne said. "We will play the role of spoiler.
"Lack of experience is our greatest weakness, but we are optimistic," Thorne said.
Assisting Thorne with the team are coaches Phil Kneller with the throws, Jay Wells with the distance events, Ellie Berube with the sprints and distance athletes and Rick Merrill with the jumps.
