Photos needed of Stewart's store, Morehouse

Does anyone have photographs of the old Stewart's Shop when it was located in the building on Main St. now housing Willows Bistro?

Kathy Quintal is seeking historic photos of Stewart's at its former location, and ones that include former 30-year manager, the late Max Morehouse.

These photos include ones that depict some of the promotions Stewart's conducted, including ones of children with Perky the Lamb, Stewart's mascot during the 1960s or so.

Quintal plans to have copies of photographs she locates hung on the wall of the new Stewart's Shop, scheduled to open this week on Stewart Farrar Ave.

Quintal is also seeking to have recognition brought to Max Morehouse, and have at least a casual dedication of the new building in his honor.

Readers with historic Stewart's photographs are urged to contact Quintal at 623-9429.

WCS Dance Marathon plans progressing

Warrensburg High School students are continuing to develop plans for their Marathon Dance fundraiser modeled after the renowned South Glens Falls Marathon Dance that's raised millions of dollars for various charities.

A core group of 10 adults and 12 students, primarily from the WCS Junior class, have been meeting regularly to sponsor a charity dance. Expectations are circulating that about 400 to 500 students from both Warrensburg Jr.-Sr. High School and neighboring schools will participate.

All area students in grades 7 through 12 are invited to participate, and each student must obtain a $25 in donation from one or more sponsors.

The South Glens Falls Marathon Dance, thriving since the 1970s, raised $283,407 in 2010 alone for charity.

Unlike this marathon which extends over two days, the Warrensburg marathon dance will likely be limited to 12 hours, extending from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Some of the proceeds of the dance will go towards helping out various families in need, perhaps those with a family member enduring a life-threatening illness.
