Activities and events in the hills

The Thurman Town Children's Christmas Party and community tree trimming is scheduled at the town hall Saturday, Dec. 4, starting at 1 p.m., with the tree decorating to begin at 3 p.m. Bring the little ones to see Santa! Gifts and refreshments will be available for all.

The Thurman Baptist Church will have their adult Christmas party at 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, not on Dec. 4 as previously announced. Bring a gift to exchange. On Sunday, Dec. 5 a Singspiration will be held at 6 p.m. at the church on the South Johnsburg Road. For information, call 623-2007 or 623-3843.

The Southern Adirondack Four-Wheeler Club meets at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, and this will be when they pick up the Toys for Tots box sponsored by the U.S. Marines, and it hopefully will be full of new toys. Meetings are open to the public - call 623-2007 for information.

The Thurman Emergency Squad will have a meeting for board members Sunday, Dec. 5, at 6 p.m. Anyone wishing on becoming a much needed member of the squad can call Jim at 623-4254 to volunteer.

The appreciation lunch for Thurman's highway crew is set for Dec. 14, at 11 a.m. Please bring in a food dish to show your appreciation to the men who keep our roadways open. For information, call 623-9961. Hot entrees will be featured.

The Thurman Volunteer Fire Co. will meet Monday, Dec. 6, at 7 p.m. in the Athol firehouse. Meetings are open to the public and new volunteers are always needed. Stop by and get acquainted!

The Gleaning food distribution session will be at the Thurman Town Hall starting at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7. This free food program is open to all Thurman residents regardless of financial status.
