SCHROON LAKE - The Wildcats are about to move into a new den.
Schroon Lake Central School's boys basketball team will christen a new gymnasium this season, moving from a small, 75-year-old court to a new, state-of-the-art facility.
The new gym, several years in the making, is expected to open this month.
Looking to utilize the new home-court advantage will be a team with six returning players from a year ago when the Wildcats posted an 11-9 record.
Jesse Shaughnessy and Ian Williams return to the back court. They're joined by rookies Matt Filler, Noah Gath and Kyle Devita.
Shaughnessy led the 'Cats in scoring last season with 13.6 markers a tilt. He also topped the club in assists and steals.
Anthony Vanderwalker, Wesley Beers and lance Paradis return to the forward line. They're joined by newcomers Kyle Taylor, Matt Savarie and Jared Fowler.
Vanderwalker led the Wildcats in rebounding last season with 7 boards a game. He also averaged 7.2 points a contest. Beers followed closely, averaging 6.8 points and 6 rebounds a game.
Jordan Taylor returns at center. Uriah Harvey will also line up in the post.
"We have a number of young, athletic talents joining the team this season," Coach Dana Shaughnessy said. "We are looking forward to a competitive season."
