Sentinels to rely in quickness, speed

TICONDEROGA - Ticonderoga lacks size entering the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference boys basketball season, but the Sentinels do have experience.

Ti returns eight players from a year ago with it posted a 6-11 CVAC record and 7-13 overall mark.

Joe Defayette, Ti's first-year coach, is preaching the basics to his club.

"We have eight guys returning from last year, which we will look to for some leadership," the coach said. "We don't have a lot of height so we'll have to be fundamentally sound and use our quickness against our opponents."

Nick Mars, the team's leading scorer last season, returns to play forward. He's joined up front by veterans Dan Morrison and Ryan Wendell along with rookie Doug Wilson.

Nate Lenhart, Matt Nolan, Tanner Purkey and Jesse Perkins return to the Sentinel back court. New at guard are EJ Kearns, Sean Smith, Will Lawrie and Joe Gonyeau.

Jesse LaRose returns to the pivot for Ticonderoga.

Defayette believes his Sentinels have the potential to make some noise in CVAC Division II and section this winter.

"We expect to be competition in our division and hope to represent Section VII Class C in sectionals," he said.
