CROWN POINT - Crown Point enjoyed the fruits of experience a year ago, now the Panthers must pay the price.
Crown Point graduated all five starters from last season's Section VII Class D championship boys basketball team. The 2010-11 Panthers are young and green.
"After losing the entire starting five from the 09-10 sectional champion team, this year is a rebuilding year for us," Coach John Swinton said. "Losing the top three statistical leaders in scoring, rebounding, assists and steals, there will be opportunities for everyone to step up and fill in roles where needed.
"We will be looking for leadership at both ends of the floor, as well as hard work in practice," he added. "While we want to do as well as possible, we've already set personal and team season goals that are both realistic and attainable. One thing that I can guarantee is that we'll play hard."
Crown Point does have five players returning from last season's 16-1 overall and 11-1 Mountain and Valley Athletic Conference team.
Doug Marshall, Jeff Clarke, Nathan Tabor, Tanner Macey and Caleb McGuinness, all juniors, are back. Marshall and Clarke are forwards. Macey and McGuinness are guards. Tabor is a swing man.
A pair of senior guards are out for the first time. Kyle Scheuer and Mark St. St. Pierre will bring maturity to the back court. Also playing guard will be sophomores Mike Summers, Michael Dushane and Dan Groshans. All are sophomores.
In the front court the Panthers will have Jimmy Greenough, a junior, and sophomores Ryan Worth, Mike Gould and Jon Spaulding.
Duke Mildon, a sophomore, will split his time between guard and forward.
