Lady Orange hope to defend league championship title

INDIAN LAKE - Coming off a third Division 3 championship, the Lady Orange will be competitive again this year and hope to defend their title against a challenging league, according to Head Coach John Reynolds.

Under the direction of Reynolds, they went 9-1 league, 13-3 in regular season and 15-5 overall to clinch the divisional title. From last year's squad, Reynolds lost Liz Hamdan, Sierra Olbert. Each were leaders for the team on and off the court. They aggressiveness and efforts on defense will be missed, according to Reynolds.

This season will be Reynolds fifth season with the Lady Orange and is confident in their potential for the the 2010-11 season.

"The team is very deep this year," he said. "We are bringing back a lot of strong players and have some promising freshmen."

Reynolds starting line is full of talent including junior senior guard Carli Reynolds who has lead the team in scoring the last two years. Senior Allison Pine will start at center and is playing well in the preseason. Senior Murphy Farrell will join them on the starting line and breaks great speed to the floor. Finally, senior guard/forward Melanie Pierson will lead the team in rebounds.

Megan Miller, Morgan Hinkley, Jessica Bain, Sydney Hinkley, Prudence Dechene and Meg Smith will come off the bench to round out the team.

Coach Reynolds expects Wells to be a test for the Orange and Johnsburg's press to be a challenge. Minerva\Newcomb is well coached and will get tougher and tougher as the season progresses, he noted.

"I think our division is much improved and will be a challenge," said Reynolds. " We have also made our non-league schedule as tough as possible. This will prepare us for post-season play."

Reynolds hopes for some big games at the end of the season to push them into post-season play.

"Last year we got to the league championship game and lost a close game. We also lost a close game at SUNY Plattsburg," he said. "Our goal is to overcome these losses and work hard every night to reach that point again."
