High winds knock out power to 8,200 in Vermont

High winds and heavy rains that began crossing the region Aug. 22 have knocked out power to about 8,200 CVPS customers. As of 9:50 p.m., 7,200 remain without power. Bennington County has been hit hardest in the past few hours, and rain and wind continue to push through the region. Tomorrow is expected to be windy as well, and new outages may persist through the night.

About 4,600 customers are without power in Bennington County, 1,300 in Rutland County and 880 in Windsor County, with scattered outages across the state. Crews out in the field this evening reported high winds bringing down trees and limbs "everywhere" in the Bennington County region.
