Wedding and Event Expo Saturday to benefit Norte Maar

PLATTSBURGH - It was such a success, pod studio is doing it again.

The full-service planning, organization and interior design firm will host Wedding and Events Expo 2010 this Saturday, Aug. 21 - its second annual event showcasing wedding and event services.

Joshua Kretser, owner and designer of pod studio, will once again invite people to his business at 65 Court St. to meet with wedding and event professionals from across the North Country. Kretser said weddings, in particular, are events that can be memorable, though very hectic and nerve-wracking without the proper planning. That's where the expo comes in.

"It can be overwhelming if people are planning a wedding themselves," he said. "The expo is a great way for those planning weddings - or even corporations looking for event services - to have everyone all in one place to see what the area has to offer. It makes it easier for them rather than them having to track them all down."

This year's event will again feature professionals focusing on everything from caterers to florists, bakeries to disc jockeys, invitation printers to tent rental companies, and more.

"We have many new vendors this year so people can meet people from event services they didn't meet last year," said Kretser.

The expo will again benefit Norte Maar for Collaborative Projects in the Arts, a nonprofit organization which aims to provide arts and culture opportunities in the North Country. The event will request $5 donations at the door, with the intent of exceeding donations raised at last year's event.

"It helps a great cause," said Kretser, who serves on the Norte Maar board of directors. "Last year, we had probably 100 to 120 people attend, which was great considering it was pouring rain."

"We figure we got the rain out of the way our inaugural year, so this year, the weather will be fantastic," Kretser added with a laugh.

This year's participating vendors include Studley Printing, Northern Bride, Foster's Tent Rentals, V.I.P. Entertainment, Irises Caf and Wine Bar, DeLish by Irises, Cakes by Betty, Laura's Bridal and College Formals, Country Expression Flowers, Nu Reflections, Best Western Inn and Suites at Smithfield, Rambach's Bakery, Duley and Associates, Nelson's Flower Shop, Lydia Ward Hair and Makeup Design, Larrisa's Sewing Studio, Pampered Chef, Hometown Fitness and Health Center, and pod studio.

The event will be held from 12-3 p.m. and include live entertainment and drawings for giveaways.
