Airplane crashes in Middlebury

A private Cessna 177 aircraft apparently lost control while taking off at the Middlebury State Airport Aug. 1, a few minutesd after noon. The plane made an emergency crash landing at the far end of the runway.

Airport officials told news reporters that two people were on board were onboard. Both individuals and were both taken to Porter Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. According to the Federal Aviation Administration website, the crashed airplane is owned by Gary Cutbill of Westford, Mass. Cutbill was one of the individuals taken to the hospital

A small fire broke out in the front of the plane after the crash and was quickly extinguished. FAA investigators were at the airport to conduct an on-site investigation.
