Hospice grant assists grieving children

TICONDEROGA - Children faced with loss have special and unique needs in dealing with their grief. Many times adults are unsure how best to help them. A 2009 Community Grant from the Wal-Mart Foundation to High Peaks Hospice & Palliative Care was used to expand and augment its bereavement program for children in the Ticonderoga area.

Grant money was used to purchase age appropriate reading materials to help grieving children and teens, as well as books for adults wanting to help grieving children. These books are now available at both the Black Watch Memorial Library and at the Ticonderoga Middle School Library.

High Peaks Hospice & Palliative Care is a local not-for-profit healthcare organization dedicated to providing compassionate end-of-life care to patients and their families. This is not limited to medical care but also includes emotional and spiritual support from trained professionals who offer assistance and guidance to survivors as they move through the grief process.
