Benefit this Sunday to help Penny Burl

MORRISONVILLE - They're doing it all for Penny.

Friends and family of Penny A. Burl will gather this Sunday, May 2, at Cocktails, 42 River St., for a benefit in Burl's honor. Burl - who lives in Peru with her husband, Timothy, and their son Josh, 15, and daughter Taylor, 9 - was recently diagnosed with Stage II breast cancer and is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment at CVPH's Fitzpatrick Cancer Center in Plattsburgh.

Her sister-in-law, Paula Agoney, has been organizing the benefit for the past month to help with Burl's medical expenses. Burl has been employed full-time at Salerno Plastics in Plattsburgh, but has been unable to work due to her illness.

"She's full of life and has a good sense of humor and that's helping her through this," said Agoney. "She's a pretty strong person."

Agoney said she hopes the community comes out to support her sister-in-law, whom she said is a very good person who's been dealt a bad hand.

"I think it's great when people come out and help someone else in the community when they're dealing with difficult health issues like this," she said.

This Sunday's benefit will be held from 12 p.m. - 6 p.m. and include a bake sale, live music, auctions, and a 50/50 drawing. Michigans and fries will be sold two for a $5 donation.

Those unable to attend the benefit but would still like to help the Burl family may send donations in care of Burl to Helen Agoney, 204 Reservoir Road, Peru N.Y. 12972.

For more information about this Sunday's benefit, contact Paula Agoney at 834-9729.
