This week was host to season openers for all local teams. The Lady Orange won two league games and asserted themselves as one of the tougher local competitors. Johnsburg topped Indian Lake-Long Lake in baseball, but they later lost to Minerva-Newcomb after a big fifth inning for the Mountaineers. The Lady Jags struggled this week and lost to Minerva-Newcomb in their home at Minerva on Tuesday.

JOHNSBURG - The Jaguars opened their season with a win over league rival Indian Lake-Long Lake on Monday after being down by one in the bottom of the seventh and scoring a run to put the game into extra innings.
Chris Scott scored on a wild pitch to give Johnsburg the win in the eighth.
Lance Baker picked up the win after pitching 2 1/3 innings of relief and he was preceded by Kevin Connor's 10 strikeouts in his six innings.
Scott had two hits, while fellow Jaguar Travis Plansker brought home a single, a double and an RBI.
Indian Lake-Long Lake's Ben Black had seven strikeouts and pitched the full game with no relief.
Catcher Jordan Wallace had a double and home run for three RBIs, while Matt Rusch tallied another homer for the Orange.
Minerva-Newcomb 10
Johnsburg 2
MINERVA - Johnsburg led the Mountaineers 1-0 through the fourth inning on Tuesday in league play. The game was quiet until Minerva-Newcomb powered in all 10 of its runs in the fifth inning for the win.
Morgan Winslow hit two singles for two runs apiece and Tatsuki Miyozato tallied a double.
Miyozato also struck out 13 Jaguar batters over six innings.
Branden Tokarz and Brandon Poulton managed one single each for the Mountaineers.
Johnsburg boasted a triple play late in the sixth inning.
