The renowned steel band Blue Flames will give a benefit performance on Sunday, May 2 at 4 p.m. in the Old Parish Church in Weston, the third presentation from "Hearts and Voices: the Zeller performance series".
Listening to the Blue Flames Caribbean sounds, rhythms and melodies will be the perfect way to leave behind the last blues and blahs of mud season and usher in the warmer times ahead.
But the Blue Flames repertoire extends well beyond the traditional Caribbean/Calypso music normally associated with a steel band and includes American standard tunes and even classical music. They have performed at the New England Pan Festival, Sun Valley, Idaho, the Virgin Islands and at the 2005 Summer Olympic Games. It will be an event to be enjoyed the whole family.
As a benefit concert, the Blue Flames and the Old Parish Church will donate all proceeds from the performance to Just Neighbors, an organization whose mission is to provide short-term, non-cash assistance to members of the greater Weston area community when other options are neither viable nor available. Just Neighbors was founded in 2004 to provide firewood to those in need of heating assistance. Since then their "brief" has expanded to include driving assistance and visitation in Weston and most of the adjoining communities
Hearts and Voices is funded by memorial gifts given in memory of G. Frederick ("Fritz") Zeller, a respected teacher and counselor and a beloved member of the Old Parish Church.
An admission donation of $10 is requested. Under 12 admitted free.
