High School Action

There was plenty of local high school action over the last week, so lets get to it.

The two-time Div. III baseball state champion Leland & Gray Rebels recently kicked off their season with a bang, traveling to Ludlow and shutting out the Black River Presidents, 13-0.

Rebels senior starter Gabe Pozzi led the way to victory from the mound, pitching six shutout innings to get the win, while striking out 11 batters along the way.

Senior catcher Tyler Russell led the offensive charge, going 4-5 with double, home run, three RBI's and three runs scored.

The game was actually close for a while as Black River senior starter Chris Kawalski gave up just two runs in four innings, but the Rebels busted out for six runs in the fifth inning and five more in the sixth to blow the game open.

Pozzi also helped his own cause with a double and triple, while Colin Nystrom and Zach Peterson pitched in with two hits each.

Staying in Ludlow, the Black River Lady Presidents softball team fared much better against the Lady Rebels, handing Leland & Gray their first loss of the year with an impressive, 12-1 victory.

Amanda Chambers went the distance for Black River, giving up no earned runs and four hits, while striking out six along the way. Chambers also helped her own cause with an RBI-single.

Offensively for the Lady Presidents, Sam Norton had three hits, Tina Valente added two, while Kaitlyn Palmer and Zoe Trimboli each scored three runs.

The win put Black River at 4-0 on the season, while Leland & Gray suffered their first loss in falling to 3-1 on the season.

In Chester, the Green Mountain Lady Chieftains improved their record to 4-0 with a 6-4 win over Mill River.
