LEWIS - A deep roster with many experienced players could allow Elizabethtown-Lewis to surprise some teams in MVAC baseball this year.
Nine players return from last year's 3-7 squad, led by senior pitcher Michael Gowdy, who batted a staggering .517 average last year on his way to 15 hits and nine RBI. Classmates Benjamin Goff and Devin Drummond are back as well, both of whom are a known threat at the plate and on the mound.
Senior Shawn LaPier and sophomore Timothy LaRock both recorded averages above .300 last year. Brandon Quain, Hunter Mowery, Andrew Mitchell, and Patrick Phillips also return with varsity experience.
"All our pitchers are returning," said head coach Jim Ratliff. "Both our offense and defense should be stronger, so I expect to be in the hunt for the league title."
Joining the team this year are Nathan Rock, Joseph Sullivan, Zachary LaPier, Charles Huttig, Bradley Egglefield, Ezekiel Diemand, Spencer Crowningshield, and Tanner Cassavaugh.
