Certified rape crisis counselor training to be offered

PLATTSBURGH - Sexual Assault Services of Planned Parenthood of the North Country New York will hold a certified rape crisis counselor training in late April and early May.

CRCCs answer the Sexual Assault Hotline and accompany survivors of sexual assaults to the hospital. In order to provide hotline counseling or accompaniment services, the New York State Department of Health requires CRCCs to complete a 30-hour training, followed by shadowing experiences, supervision, and continuing education, for a total of 10 additional hours within one year of certification. The 30-hour course begins Friday, April 30, and will be held over several evenings and two weekend days. Attendance at all sessions is required.

Participation in the training requires a pre-training interview and a commitment by the participant to volunteer to provide hotline coverage and/or accompaniment services after regular business hours. CRCC volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.

Those interested in volunteering may contact Sexual Assault Services at 561-0605, ext. 125.
