UNYTEA protest planned for April 15

PLATTSBURGH - The Upstate New York Tea party will stage a Tax Day protest Thursday, April 15, at the Westside Ballroom on New York Road, beginning at 7 p.m.

UNYTEA chairman Mark L Barie predicted a large turnout for the event, which will include remarks from Steven Levy, the Suffolk County Executive running for governor of New York State.

"This protest is an opportunity for local taxpayers to send a message to both Albany and Washington: you're spending too much, you're taxing too much, and it has got to stop," said Barie.

The grassroots organizer also cited statistics from a recent Rasmussen Poll which suggest the Tea party movement is growing in popularity.

"The most recent polling data shows that the American people, by a margin of almost two to one, consider Tea Party activists, as having a better understanding of the issues than members of Congress," said Barie, adding, "And a very recent Quinnipiac poll, reported that the Tea Party is now more popular than either the Democrat or Republican parties."

Admission to the tax day protest is free and the public is welcome.
