Broadway comes to Minerva

MINERVA - Broadway, with all its glitz, energy, life, and music, came to Minerva on March 27 - 28. On those evenings, the Minerva Central School Drama Club presented From "Wizard" to "Wicked": Broadway thru the Decades.

The show was an extensive revue of songs from Broadway shows over the past 100 years. Each of the two performances drew large crowds looking to enjoy great singing and dancing, and they found it.

Songs from musicals representing each decade over the past century on Broadway in NYC were performed by MCS students in a way that drew one in to the musical energy. The full cast of about 35 students and select individual students performed the songs, which often included elaborate choreographed dance numbers. From the rousing "The Lullaby of Broadway" (42nd Street) opening full cast event to the "There's No Business Like Show Business" (Annie Get Your Gun) finale, each tune was well-represented.

The original concept of this show came from MCS Music Director Sabrina LaPointe, who served as producer and director of the show.

The accompaniment was provided by Wendy Deshetsky. Thanks to all the backstage and front-of-house workers. A special thank you to set designer Mindy Piper, costumers Sabrina LaPointe and Marge Stohmeyer, sound and lighting technicians Jed Armstrong and Anthony LaPointe, and choreographers Sabrina LaPointe, Massena Green, and Briana Hammond.

Historical information was gathered by Sabrina LaPoint, Kailyn D'Avignon, and Benn Hall. The time and energy that the students put into these performances was evident throughout.
