Ti Elks Essay contest set

TICONDEROGA -The National Elks Association is again sponsoring an essay contest for students in grades 5-8 this fall.

The Ticonderoga Elks Lodge #1494 will explain the project to fifth through eighth graders at Ticonderoga, St. Mary's, Putnam, Crown Point, Moriah, Schroon Lake and Mountainside Academy schools.

This year's topic is "The American Dream-What Is It?"

Winners in each category will receive a gift certificate and at state level a $100 savings bond and up to an additional $1,000 for national finals winners. Judging will be based on originally, theme development, mechanics and neatness.

All eligible contestants are invited to submit a typed or legibly printed essay of up to 250 words to the Ticonderoga Elks Lodge #1494, 5 Tower Avenue, Ticonderoga 12883, by Dec. 4.

A cover sheet providing the author's name, age, grade, school, teacher and parent contact information must be attached to each entry.

Each of the area winners - three from grades 5 and 6 and three from grades 7 and 8 - will compete in the district contest to determine who will compete in the state and national finals.
