Harvest Day set at Fort Ti

TICONDEROGA - The King's Garden at Fort Ticonderoga will host its annual Harvest Day Saturday, Oct. 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with activities for the entire family.

Carefully designed and cultivated the formal garden features dahlias, mums, and other colorful fall flowers that will be made into bouquets for sale. The day also includes a plant sale. The garden staff will be digging a variety of species ready to be transplanted directly into the home garden and dahlia corms for spring planting.

Outside the brick walls focus will be on the demonstration vegetable gardens: the Children's Garden, the Three Sisters' Garden and the Garrison Garden.

Vegetables will be for sale and there will be craft activities for the younger set 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Plans include making small straw scarecrows, a special leaf hunt and a Scarecrow Parade at 1 p.m. Children who come dressed for the parade will receive free admission.

Parents and others can participate in a Foliage Tour lead by Garden Curator Heidi Karkoski.

Fort Ticonderoga finishes its first century on Oct. 20. The King's Garden will close on Columbus Day. For more information go online at www.FortTiconderoga.org
