Poulin wins 8th annual Ty Yandon memorial 5k Race

NEWCOMB - As part of Newcomb's annual Teddy Roosevelt and Discover Newcomb celebration, the eighth annual Ty Yandon memorial 5k run/walk race was held on Aug. 13.

A Newcomb native, Yandon passed away while running in the Troy Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving day 2000. He was an avid runner and the race has been run in his honor every year since his passing.

Twenty-eight runners and walkers participated in this year's event.

Results of this year's race include winner of the junior women's division, Nicole Bureau of East Greenbush with a time of 28.41.

Men's junior division winner was Paul Ford of Keeseville with a time of 23.34 and second went to Daryn Hutchings of Argyle with a time of 24.24.

Winning the senior division was Gary Baker of Long Lake with a time of 22.29.

Women's division first place went to Jolene Hlavaty of Newcomb with a time of 23.11, second to Susanne Hayden of North Creek with a time of 24.55 and third to Jane Recor of Schuyler Falls with a time of 25.37.

Winner of the men's division and overall fastest time was Pierre Poulin of Granville with a time of 19.25. Second in the men's division went to Kevin Yandon of Newcomb with a time of 20.16 and third to Eric Bureau of East Greenbush with a time of 21.15.

The money raised from the race is pooled in a scholarship fund for local students.
