For the very first time, a VT garden club has received the New England Region Nancy H. Atwell Trophy for Publicity.

Springfield Garden Club proudly accepted the trophy from the Vermont State President Stephanie Hockensmith on October 6, at the fall state meeting of the Federated Garden Clubs of Vermont in Brandon.

Springfield Garden Club President, Anne Miller, who accepted the award stated that CT, MA, ME and RI clubs have received this award in the past, but neither NH nor VT had a plaque on the trophy.

In an email to its' club members, Miller expressed her deepest appreciation to SGC members Deanna Dexter and Marita Johnson for the articles, photography and submission of the application booklets done so well that the other clubs are asking for workshops "to teach them how we do it."

The Springfield Garden Club also appreciates the support of the local newspapers for their publication of press releases submitted and coverage by their reporters.

The SGC is gearing up for their annual fundraiser, the 17th annual "Festival of Trees" which raises money for civic beautification and student scholarships in the fields of horticulture, forestry and environmental studies.

This will be at the Fullerton Inn in Chester on Friday, November 20 from 6 to 8 p.m.
