Best class' establishes Ti High graduation award

TICONDEROGA - There's no doubt in Dick Allen's mind.

"The Class of 1964 was probably the best class ever at Ticonderoga High School," he said.

To ensure other remember the class, its members have joined to create the Class of 1964 Graduation Award.

The $50 award will honor the boy and girl in each graduating class that has demonstrated the greatest academic improvement during their high school career.

Representatives of the class - Allen, MaryAnn Wallace, Margaret Scuderi and Steve Boyce - met with Ti High Principal Mike Graney recently to set up the award.

They presented Graney with $1,082 collected at their 45th class reunion, held Oct. 10. The class raised $562 in a raffle and received two $250 donations.

"We're hoping to perpetuate the award with future donations from our class," Wallace said. "We want to thank everyone who participated in this initial fund drive."

The reunion drew 31 members of the class. There were 82 graduates in 1964, 22 of whom have died.

Wallace said the award is a way of remembering deceased members of the class.

Unlike other scholarships, students will not apply for the Class of 1964 award. Teachers will make nominations and the high school scholarship committee will make selections.
