TICONDEROGA - A Ticonderoga couple will be spending time in jail.
Anthony O'Hara, 40, and his wife, Marie O'Hara, 39, who allowed an under-age drinking party in their home a year ago have been sentenced to spend 14 weekends in Essex County Jail.
The couple was convicted during the summer of 10 misdemeanor counts of unlawfully dealing with a child, and Mr. O'Hara was also convicted of 11 misdemeanor charges of endangering the welfare of a child.
Both were acquitted of misdemeanor criminal nuisance counts, while Mrs. O'Hara was acquitted of endangering the welfare of a child charges.
The charges came in connection with an Oct. 18, 2008, under-age drinking party at their home on Putts Pond Road in Chilson. Teens as young as 13 were present at the party, and two teens needed medical treatment for alcohol poisoning.
The sentence imposed by Justice Keith Dolbeck includes three years on probation and they will each have to pay $500 fines or perform 50 hours of community service.
The O'Haras began serving the jail sentences Oct. 17-18 and will spend each weekend in jail through the weekend of Jan. 15.
Their then-16-year-old son hosted the party. Neither he nor the other teens at the party were prosecuted, as all became witnesses in the case against the O'Haras. That case went to trial in July, and the couple was convicted of all charges.
The lawyer for the O'Haras, William Montgomery, said the couple maintains their innocence and plan to appeal. He said he hopes to have the sentences stayed pending appeal.
