Treasuring the town heritage

"I think it's very representative of what our community is right now in 2009," said Westport supervisor Dan Connell.

The stainless steel container will be sent back to its manufacturer in Pennsylvania where it will be vacuum sealed to preserve its contents.

Connell said the town would be soliciting proposals from local woodworkers until Oct. 20 to build a display case for the sealed time capsule and a few other items.

"We'd really like to have someone from Westport do it."

When it returns to Westport, the sealed time capsule will remain on display at the Heritage House during the summer months, and will likely be moved to the town hall in the winter.

"It will always be on display in a public building year-round," said Connell.
