Clinton County has reported the first H1N1 related death of an adult with underlying medical conditions. The Clinton County Health Department received notice from the CVPH Medical Center that an adult admitted for complications associated with influenza-type illness has died.
Several more cases of individuals diagnosed with H1N1 illness were reported earlier this week. The resurgence of the H1N1 influenza was expected by local health officials. Individuals with underlying health conditions are one of the groups at risk for complications from H1N1 influenza.
Officials are waiting for the H1N1 vaccine to arrive in the community in amounts large enough to conduct public clinics. Smaller amounts that have been received to date are being distributed to providers in the community that can provide it to the very specific target groups outlined by the Centers for Disease Control. Health officials are continuing to ask the public to practice good health habits throughout the flu season.
