One community member credited Napper for her efforts as president of the Saranac Teachers Association, particularly in reference to the July 2006 closing of Cadyville Elementary School. When the closure was proposed by the school district, the community and those involved with the school were "in an uproar," the nominator wrote.
"Immediately, the teachers at Cadyville turned to Lisa Napper, as association president, for assistance," the letter stated. "Lisa's response was well thought out, efficient and executed with respect for all involved. Lisa listened to the complaints of the teachers and encouraged those teachers to work together with her to make a list of concerns."
Napper then took the concerns to school district administrators and "spent countless hours as a mediator between the parties trying to ascertain what options were available and if the options satisfied the needs of the teachers."
Though the school closed, the teachers received assistance to accommodate the transition and many of the worries of community members were put to rest.
"In a circumstance that could have been extremely hostile," the letter continued, "Lisa's quiet presence prevails, in the best interest of the students in the Saranac district."
The nominations, said Tamer, validated what she already knew.
"I know how wonderful she is, but reading them was very heart-warming," said Tamer. "And, I know why they selected her."
Napper said the support she has received both at school and from home, has meant all the difference in making her a successful teacher.
"I've been fortunate to have that support from both my home family and my school family," she said. "And, Saranac is the finest school in the North Country. We are very fortunate to have phenomenal colleagues, phenomenal administration and phenomenal parents by our side."
Napper will be presented with her award during a regular board of education meeting at the district office in Dannemora Monday, Nov. 2. The award will be conferred at 6:30 p.m. A reception is scheduled prior to the meeting at 6 p.m.
